About Me:
- I moved to Austin from the Dallas area, specifically Rockwall/Heath, to attend UT; I am a senior psychology major and a social work minor. I am passionate about people and seeing them make the most of their lives.I hope to be someone who impacts others in a positive way.
- I love and am fascinated with communication, fitness, nutrition and exercise. I enjoy running @ Lady Bird Lake.
- I have three daughters who challenge me and make me a better person. I learn from them on a daily basis. Last year we were all college students but now only 3 of us are in school as my daughter graduated from A&M last December - Don't hold it against her! She is actually quite lovely just misguided.
- I have always wanted to write a blog and now here is my opportunity!
- I like to laugh and I am told have a great sense of humor!
- I enjoy the weekends and my girlfriends and red wine!
My Goals For This Class:
- I am very passionate about giving back to the community as I was involved with 40 women in Rockwall/Heath raising money for scholarships for high school kids to attend college. I hope to bring the knowledge I learned through that organization to benefit Project 2013.
- I hope to have a better level of understanding in all that goes into serving the community.
- I look forward to learning from the staff and other students involved in this project to continue a lifetime of service to a community regardless of where it is.
Greta,
ReplyDeleteI'm very excited to work with you for Project 2013! It seems like you truly want to help people and I think that you will fit in very well with our group!
From reading your blog, it appears you're a nontraditional student, which is a great perspective for us to have for Project. The majority of students working with us are those who go directly into College following high school so we often have similar ideas and in this context have similar experiences.
One thing that I would like to mention to you is that you can become as involved with Project as you like over the next month. If the schedule for Team Lead trainings doesn't necessarily work for you, we can deal with that in a way that still allows you to be successful in our SW 360K class. Feel free to email me and let me know if you would prefer to work with us in another way and we can make that happen. A lot goes into making Project a success each year and there are always certain people who take on special roles in planning during this last stretch and different roles on the day of the event too!
On a more personal note, I'm from the Dallas area too (Mansfield/Arlington) but commonly stay with my aunt and uncle up in Southlake when I'm home and working in the area. I really respect that you decided to come down and pursue your education here now that you have the opportunity, this is near the top of my list of most wonderful places I've been/lived and UT Austin is a great school.
Let me know if I can help you out in any way!
Cameron
Greta or Ms. Bellinger or I don't know!
ReplyDeleteI do not know how to call you in a non-disrespectful way because you definitely have much more life experience than me. I actually remember sitting beside you on the first class day. You walked into the class with the big bright smile on your face, indicating as you were excited to take this class and to learn.
Through your blog post, I read your amazing passion for learning. You even moved from Dallas to Austin to attend the UT, which I guessed might not be an easy decision for someone who had three daughters and settled life. You seem as you are not afraid of challenges or at least, you are able to face and win it.
My heart was moved and my thought was challenged at the last phrase of your post: "lifetime service to a community regardless to where it is." Although I am a social work major, I have always thought of service to the community as work limited by time and materials. I have never imagined to provide service to the community for lifetime. I am very expressed with your mind.
It is very pleasure to take this class with you. I hope we can learn mutually from each other and build a relationship throughout the semester.
